what to buy a 3 year old

Friends, I know I've been a little quiet, but I'm still here, still pregnant, and most recently very swollen in the feet and ankles. Everything feels so tight. I do not recall feeling this tight with the other two, but then again, moms are given that natural ability to forget those sorts of things once that precious bundle arrives.

A positive distraction has been the fact that my youngest is just around the corner from turning three, so we're actively planning his birthday bash. This is the first year he is really aware of what's going on and he's made some very specific requests - he wants a cake, a party hat, and candles. Oh, and he wants everybody to come. Melt my heart!

We did explain to him that people who come to his party may want to bring him a birthday gift, and asked him what kinds of things he would like to have. So, born was this list of what to buy a 3 year old, just in case you're in need of some ideas. I would like to point out that the list is wholly owned by my almost 3 year old, but the suggestions are mine from doing a little Amazon research.

  1. My daughter is currently obsessed with Mouse as she calls him! I remember feeling quite tight with my 3rd! Party planning is a good distraction! Xoxo Erin

  2. At 3, our son was OBSESSED with plastic animals from Safari Ltd. Actually, he still plays with them at 5. Hands down, best gift we could have given him!

  3. I'm so sorry you're so swollen. I fully feel your pain and have been drinking tons of lemon water. I swear it helps a little! Does your little guy have magnatiles? Those were a big hit for Greyson's third birthday and he still loves them two years later.

  4. Thanks for the inspiration! My cousin has twin boys that I will be buying birthday gifts for soon.

  5. The farm stuff is awesome! I would add Melissa and Doug's horse stable. Boys and girls love to play with them, and they'd be great to add to the farm! Hang in there! I hope you get to meet baby sooner than later!

  6. This is great - definitely need to know what to get my friends' 3 year old! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  7. These are great ideas! I'm working on the list for our [almost] two year old this week! It's crazy how quickly time flies! I love the farm trucks!

  8. I love little kid birthdays. You can buy so much stuff they like for cheap. Enjoy it now...LOL

  9. It's so interesting that since you live on a farm, there are things like a remote control tractor on his list. I'm not sure I've ever seen one of those in stores near us. My son was big into remote control cars when he was younger. At 3 I remember him being VERY into Thomas the Tank engine! Hope he has a great birthday!

  10. Hello! I've really enjoyed reading your blog lately! This list will be perfect for me since my nephew is turning 3 soon too! He is also really into farm and construction equipment! Thank you!
