friday favorites: take me out to the ball game

I am SO happy to see Friday! And I'm even more excited that today is a staycation day! Yesterday, I decided the kids and I needed a free day at home - that's what vacation days are for, right? Sleeping in, yummy breakfast, pajamas 'til noon, movie reruns, and absolutely no rush to be anywhere... just exactly what this pregnant working mama needs.

As for my favorites from the week, I only have one that I really want to share. Not that I don't have other favorites, but this one is just that awesome.

Last Friday, my Farmer and I took Little J to his first Reds game and it was Ah-mazing. We had the absolute best time. We arrived in Cincy late afternoon with plenty of time to spare. We parked on the KY side and walked across the bridge to Ohio.

We decided to take a tour through the Museum. My Farmer likes history, and I was all for some air conditioning. The weekend was focused on honoring Pete Rose so there was an entire section dedicated to him, including this character board.

Inside the Museum was a pitching cage. Visitors could try their hand at hitting the strike zone. It kept track of balls/strikes and even measured the speed of the pitch. My Farmer actually did pretty good. I wanted to throw so badly but didn't figure that would be wise. Little J tried so hard - but that's a long way from the mound to the catcher. He could get it there, just not in the strike zone.

Little J got to bring home this incredibly cool Pete Rose bobble head. Thankfully, we brought Little L one home too - since I'm pretty sure one of them has an already broken bat.

After the Museum, we headed into the stadium. During the National Anthem, the zoo released a bald eagle that flew straight to the pitcher's mound. I wish I had a photo of that! It was the coolest thing.

The game itself was a lot of fun. We had great seats and secretly hoped for a foul ball the whole time. Little J had his glove ready! We had slices of La Rosa pizza, ice cold coke, and some cotton candy. Bottles of water were almost $5!

The Reds didn't win, but the catcher did hit a home run! After the game on Friday nights, there are fireworks. Let me tell you, I was NOT expecting ten minutes worth of awesomeness - quite possibly the best grand finale I've ever seen.

After the fireworks ended, we finally made our way back to the car. I'm not going to lie, by this point I was done. My hands and feet were super swollen and all the walking had my sciatic nerve agitated. We started our three hour trek home, and that my friend, was the hardest part of the whole excursion. In the evenings, I struggle with restless leg syndrome and my legs literally felt like jumping out of the car. I couldn't sit still and there was no way I could fall asleep. I was so relieved to pull in the driveway and crawl into my own bed! I basically took the remainder of the weekend to recuperate, but it was worth every minute!

If your close to Cincy or within driving distance, I highly recommend a Friday night game. The evening temps, the eagle, the game, and the fireworks made for an excellent family outing.

Other than the game, the week itself has been a bit quiet. In case you missed it, I shared my thoughts on what it means to have a prepared heart (Ezra 7:10) and the nine things I can't live without during the summer.

Oh, and I've been trying to be a better Instagrammer. Would love for you to follow me here!

The weekend forecast currently looks restful an uneventful - we shall see. What's on your weekend agenda? I hope it's an awesome one - Happy Friday!

  1. How adorable are you on your Reds tee. Baseball and Summer just go hand in hand. My sister in law and brother in law make it a point to go to a different major league park every summer and only have 3 left to hit. I loved your prepared heart post and I wish you a lovely and sweet weekend!

  2. We are headed to Seattle for a baseball game this weekend and I cannot wait! This post made me so excited. I am glad you had such a fun vacation day at home. Those are the best. Happy weekend!

  3. Baseball games are fabulous for kiddos! We adore taking our babies to the minor league team's here in Winston-Salem. Off to blog stalk you - I don't get a chance to read during work weeks #majorbummer!

  4. Looks like an awesome time! That Pete Rose board is too funny! :)

  5. We always love going to MLB games! We usually do an annual Mets game and sometimes go to local minor league games closer to home over the summer. Yes, food prices are crazy at stadiums! You guys are brave driving three hours to and from the stadium! I would be totally exhausted. And I used to have restless leg syndrome too.....horrible! I hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend!

  6. That looks like so much fun! Except the Pete Rose part - LOL- my dad met him on a plane in the 90s and said he was a real jerk. I bet your guys had so much fun, too- the pitching part of the museum sounds awesome! I picked up a can of Batiste yesterday and can't wait to give it a try- hope you have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!

  7. I miss those summer days when you would just stay in your PJs watching movies! Doesn't baseball just scream summer?! I always love the fireworks at the end too :-) Looks like a great time. Have a fabulous weekend!

  10. Well that looks like such a fun little trip right up to the part where you got swollen and had to ride home. I have bouts of RLS too and it will drive you crazy!!! Hate it. You looked so cute in your jersey and the when you were "sliding" into base...LOL Have a great weekend!

  11. That character board picture is hilarious, and you look gorgeous in that last photo! Also, I followed you on IG :) Happy weekend!

  12. What a fun experience (minus the car trip home). I know my husband is dying to take our daughter to a baseball game! It's such a fun atmosphere!

  13. It looks so fun! We haven't taken our Little to a baseball game yet (he's almost 2, so I don't think he would have the attention span yet), but I bet he would like it when he's older. This seems like an awesome Friday night outing with the family!

  14. Looks like fun! I haven't been to an MLB game since I was a kid.
