boy or girl: 10 old wives' tales

Baby #3 is set to arrive in less than a month and we have no idea whether baby is a boy or a girl. We have chosen this route with all of our children and have loved every minute of the not knowing adventures. You can read more on the reasons why we chose this route in this post.

But for now, let's play a game! I thought it would be fun to list ten old wives' tales and see what the prediction would be based on those. And then, I would love to know what you think as well! Do share your guess in the comments.

Craving sweet (girl) or salty (boy)?
Is it unfair to say both? Because I seriously cannot pick one. I have been indulging in those Hershey's sweet and salty mixes for the last several months. But if I HAD to choose, I would say I pick something sweet more often than I do salty. GIRL

Feeling extra nauseous (girl) or wondering what everyone else complains about when it comes to morning sickness (boy)?
Definitely extra nauseous. It was closer to week 17 before I actually felt like eating again, and then even closer to week 28 before I had a real appetite. I've gained maybe 15 pounds the entire pregnancy. GIRL

Receiving comments about your glowing pregnancy (boy) or feeling a little dull (girl)?
I've got that glow, or so the folks I work with, attend church with, and pass randomly at the grocery store say. BOY

Start sobbing over absolutely nothing (girl) or completely go with the flow (boy)?
Weeping is more like it. My feelings are hurt much more easily and I can break down in tears just thinking about something. GIRL

Feel like a teenager again with all the acne (girl) or complexion never looked better (boy)?
Best complexion I've had in years. I hope it sticks around! BOY

Baby's heart rate beating faster than 140 beats per minute (girl) or slower than 140 (boy)?
Hovering slightly above 140. My last appointment - the heart rate was 142. GIRL

Eating Tylenol like its candy for headache relief (boy) or what headaches (girl)?
Thank goodness for Extra Strength Tylenol! I'm not sure it helped much, but I took it and took it often. Thankfully, those tapered off at some point along the way. BOY

Everyone craving your long, beautiful locks (boy) or has your hair never been more limp and dull (girl)?
I've managed to increase the number of days I can go without washing my hair. My hair holds curl so much better and feels tons fuller. I hope that sticks around too. BOY

Weight gain all in the belly (boy) or everywhere and anywhere (girl)?
I am all belly. I didn't realize it until I saw a picture of myself not too long ago. Plus, I receive lots of comments about how I actually look as though I've lost weight except for my belly. BOY

Carrying high (girl) or low (boy)?
I think high, but I really can't tell. Can you (photo below was at 33 weeks)? GIRL

GIRL - 5
BOY - 5

That's awesome! I was almost hesitant to do this because I was afraid it would woo me one way or the other. Only God knows and we'll find out when he or she arrives.

By the way, the photo at the top - I picked these super cute outfits up at our Carter's store. I've always just brought Baby home in a gender neutral outfit but this time I thought I'd grab both. I have to admit, it's much easier to shop for girls clothing than it is boys!

  1. This is so fun! I love that you're keeping it a surprise! My brother and SIL just had a baby a few weeks ago and they didn't find out the gender, and it was SO fun was their little boy was born!

  2. You look beautiful and glowing! I have always heard that if the heartbeat was over 140 it was a girl and it proved true for me!

  3. How fun! I love old wives tales!! Little man's heartbeat was slower than little lady's, but it was still over 140. I was more sick with him too. There is one I'll never know the answer to until I get to Heaven. Little lady has double crowns, one of the old wives tales says it means she was a twin. ;)
But, I vote Girl :) I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smooth and pray you have a safe delivery and healthy baby! <3

    1. So far, all of my babies heart beats have been in the 140s. I kind of love that and how it makes it a toss up! I hadn't heard that about the crowns. Wow, that's interesting! And thank you - we're getting closer to finding out! Eek!

  8. This is great! My daughter was low and my son was high. And my nausea was an all time high with both! Isn't it strange how each pregnancy can be different even with the same sex? Happy last stage of pregnancy. Welcoming any baby is just so exciting!

  9. Oh I absolutely can't wait to find out! We have a friend who was told she was having a third girl so she didn't bother buying anything new or redecorating the nursery. Had the baby and it was a BOY! I'm glad you're waiting- nothing is a surprise anymore, so this will be exciting!

  10. Too funny that your total is a tie between both! My guess is a girl based on how you're carrying. :D I'm so amazed that you guys have the self-control to wait to find out. It's SO much fun following your pregnancy and I can't wait to hear the news! :)

  11. Did you do these in the past and did they turn out right?? Obviously this one is even but I was curious. While buying girl clothes for a gift I was amazed at how many more options there are than the boy clothes.

  12. That is crazy that they are half and half. I can't wait to find out!!!
