weekending unplugged

Weekends absolutely fly by. We started ours off with a thunderstorm that killed our power around 8 pm on Friday night. I was thinking some unplug time might not be a bad idea, and this was God's way I assume of sealing that fate. It really wasn't that bad except for the complete loss of all the contents in our freezer/refrigerator - the power stayed off for close to twenty hours.

The most fun part was watching Little L. We kept telling him the power was out, but he didn't quite comprehend it so every time he tried something and it didn't work, he'd get so disappointed and frustrated all over again as if figuring it out for the first time.

I managed to get a lot of reading in over the weekend. Thank goodness I made a trip to the Library towards the end of the week and came home with a few goodies. I finished Lauren Graham's Talking as Fast as I Can pretty quickly. I really do not read a lot of non-fiction but I couldn't pass up a book that shared insight on my beloved Gilmore Girls. If you're a fan of the show, this is definitely a must read.

Here's one of my favorite passages from the book.
"Sometimes the idea of doing something is the most fun part, and after you go through with it, you feel deflated because you realize you're back to looking for the next thrill. Often, waiting reveals the truth about something, and not responding to your every impulse can save you the heartache..."
I'm working my way through Jane L. Rosen's Nine Women, One Dress. So far this is a really quick read, light hearted and sweet. I'll keep you posted.

You might be a farm girl if... you look out the window on Sunday morning and see two cows circling your garden about to partake in your corn and green beans - so you head out the door in your robe with your hair in a towel, hop on the 4-wheeler and chase them away like a crazy person... seven months pregnant.

This kitten's mama disappeared, so now we have a kitten that we're trying to keep alive. The boys have already named it Rockie. It IS pretty cute and it loves Little J. We picked up some milk replacement and kitten chow from the farm store this evening. We'll see how it goes.

On our way home from church Sunday evening, Baby #3 said he/she wanted some ice cream. So, we stopped by DQ and I splurged on an Oreo Blizzard with extra Oreos. That was my dinner. Oops.

Speaking of church, it was so good to be back in services on Sunday. That stomach bug took me out for basically an entire week. Even Little J is taking longer to bounce back than I would have expected - makes me feel a little less like a weenie.

Well, that about sums up the weekend for me. I may be a little scarce this week - the week ahead will be a busy one work-wise. I'm hoping and praying it all goes smoothly.

Happy Monday!

  9. Oh, I can't wait to see what you think about the book. Some down time can be really nice, but yuck to losing all the things in your freezer. I laughed out loud imagining you chasing the cows away, but you do what you have to do, right?! Happy Monday!

  10. Yay for an unpluggled weekend (aside from all that wasted food).I loved Talking as Fast I Can! I'm a huge GG fan and I was surprised by how fun Lauren Graham's writing is. And I was not a fan of cats until we got our two kittens a few months ago. They're so sweet!
