let's talk books, chocolate, and deodorant

Happy Friday, Friends!

This week has been a super busy one work-wise, and as such my list of favorites is a bit on the short and sweet side. I'm hoping things will be a little less crazy come middle of next week. Who doesn't love budget season, month-end and quarter-end reporting?! (I secretly love it... I know, I am a dork.)

ONE
I finished Nine Women, One Dress by Jane L. Rosen. It was a quick and easy read. Definitely a feel-good chick lit novel. I wouldn't say there's a lot of substance to it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It required little effort from me and I stayed intrigued the entire time. This book is perfect for a day on the beach or one spent without electricity...

Nine Women, One Dress: A Novel by [Rosen, Jane L.]

A partial description from Goodreads:
"A charming, hilarious, irresistible romp of a novel that brings together nine unrelated women, each touched by the same little black dress that weaves through their lives, bringing a little magic with it."

TWO
I recently posted a list of some of my favorite summer products - one of them being the Arm & Hammer man deodorant that I use instead of the super expensive Rx strength kinds they have for women. Lisa shared with me that she sometimes uses Almay. Well, I picked it up a few days ago and I am seriously loving this deodorant. It might just be my new favorite. Plus, I feel like it's good to have two that I can at least alternate between now.

Almay Sensitive skin Clear Gel, Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant, Fragrance Free, 2.25-Ounce Stick (Pack of 6)

THREE
This isn't a favorite really, just noteworthy. Remember that cute little kitten the boys named Rockie? We came home on Monday evening and she had passed on. I'm pretty sure Little J and I both cried like babies for a solid hour. I mean, it had only been a couple of days since we found her, but we became attached really quickly, even if we knew the chances of her staying alive were low. (By the way, the picture below is a sleeping kitty, not a dead one - I'm not that morbid!)

FOUR
We made a trip the library this week. I picked up a few books that I'm really looking forward to reading. I haven't quite decided which to tackle first. Have you read any of them? Which would you recommend?

My Not So Perfect Life: A Novel by [Kinsella, Sophie]     Once and for All by [Dessen, Sarah]     Come Sundown by [Roberts, Nora]

FIVE
My absolute new favorite guilty pleasure is these Dove Caramel & Milk Chocolate Silky Smooth Promises. I left these in my desk at work this week, and I devoured the entire bag, by myself, in less than four work days. I seriously have a problem - I need another bag.

Dove Silky Smooth Promises ~ Caramel & Milk Chocolate ~ 7.94oz

Well, that about sums it up for me! The weekend is looking fairly calm. Saturday is hair day and could quite possibly be the last one before Baby's arrival. I'm definitely in need of some root correction and a trim. We're also hoping to make it to the rodeo on Saturday hosted by a local county fair. Ride 'em cowboy!

Have a great weekend!

  4. Trista, I'm so sorry about your kitten! :( What a cutie she was.
Love getting the book recommendations. I am currently reading My (Not So) Perfect Life and I absolutely love it- it's hilarious and light with fantastic characters and a great story. You'll appreciate the fact that the main character grew up on a dairy farm. I think it's my favorite book of the year so far!
Hope you have a great weekend!

  6. Sorry about the kitty. I know how it is to try to save a little tiny animal and they not make it. But hey if you want another cat....they are a dime a dozen LOL! I read My Not So Perfect Life and it grew on me! If you like Sophie Kinsella then read it! I love her! Did I miss the baby bump pic this week? I saw one as your thumbnail but not on this post. Of course I've been a terrible blogger/blogger friend work has been OOC. Happy weekend, rest, enjoy! xo

    1. I know - I seriously thought about the fact that kittens turn into cats and we already have two of those. But she was sooo cute. Moving on! I do like Sophie Kinsella - she always makes me feel good and laugh! No baby bump pic this week - I probably should work on that. I'm quite large. Ha. Happy Weekend to you too!

  7. Nine Women One Dress sounds like a fun book. I just added it to my list of books to read in August. Thanks for the suggestion!

  8. Girl, dove caramel and milk chocolate is my favorite too! I try to avoid buying it bc I know I'll eat the entire bag. So sorry about your kitty. Losing a little sweetie that cute totally merits a bag of Dove.

    1. The are so good!! I'm embarrassed to say that I actually added them to the grocery list. Not coming home with them isn't an option. Ha! And thank you - we're bummed but trust that it was for the best. God is in control, right?!

  10. So sorry to hear about the kitten! How sad! I haven't read a book by Sarah Dessen in years! I'll have to look that one up! I'm not really a caramel person (although my family loves caramel!), but Dove chocolates are always good! I'll have to pick up a bag of the caramel ones for the family! Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. They are so incredibly yummy - I hope they enjoy them! It's been awhile since I've read anything by her as well, but I remember liking her books... So, we'll have to see how this one goes. Yes, poor Rockie. We knew it was a long shot but we still got our hopes up. Working to trust that God is in control! Happy Weekend to you!

  11. That book sounds like something I'd like..I'm all about the mindless, easy read! I'm so glad you liked the deodorant. I do alternate it. When I use it for an extended period of time my arm pit gets a little irritated, so I just use the Arm & Hammer for a few days and I'm good to go again. Thanks for the shout out! Happy Friday!!! XOXO

    1. Ya know, I always wonder if I am the only person who struggles in the deodorant department. It's like I become immune. And women's deodorants just don't do the trick for me. I really hope you like it! Keep me posted!

  13. Ah, I finished Once and For All last week! I'm a huge Sarah Dessen fan, so I'm probably a bit biased when I say that I recommend. Not sure if you've read her other stuff, but it felt like she was getting back to her roots compared to some of the ones she's released in the last few years. So sorry your family lost that sweet kitten. I would have cried for several hours, I'm sure.

  14. I've been having the hardest time finding a deodorant that I love! Checking this one out next. :) I'm so sorry about your sweet kitty. I have one of my own, and I would be devastated, too! :(

    1. I so hope you like it - keep me posted! And yes, we were so sad. Well, my son was over it in like an hour but I'm still sad. I blame it on the pregnancy hormones. Ha. Hope you have a good weekend!

  15. Happy Friday!! I'm not sure I've ever seen Almay deodorant, at least been looking for it before. Oh yesss, Dove caramel chocolate is so delicious. Have a great weekend! Beautifully Candid

  16. Totally need to try those deodorants - I feel like my body has gotten way too used to Secret. The rodeo will be so much fun! And I vote the Sophie Kinsella book first- I haven't read it but enjoyed Shopaholic years ago. I'm so sad because some jerk clicked on the hold button mere seconds before I did and got the Lauren Graham book from the library so now I have to wait! :( Hope you all have a fun weekend!

  17. I'm always on the lookout for easy reads to mix in with some of the other books that I read that are not always so easy to read! I will add this one to my reading list :)

And I am so sorry to hear about the little kitty!! I would probably be a hot mess if even after a couple hours!
