interview with the blogger: answer ten questions

Hellooo Sweet Friday!

Since my week was mostly overshadowed by the pesky stomach bug and recuperating from the effects of that (including a few hours spent in the ER chugging IV fluids), I believe I'll stray a bit from the usual download of exciting happenings from the week and instead, ask YOU a bunch of invigorating questions.

Inquiring minds want to know...

[1] How do you read and keep up with other blogs? I currently use Bloglovin' and have no problems with the tool, but am curious if there is something better that I need to try.

[2] What is your favorite form of social media? I've never really put much effort into maintaining an Instagram account until recently, but I believe it is quickly becoming my favorite.

[3] What devices do you use in regard to blogging? Your computer, phone, tablet, etc. I currently use my computer to draft posts, and my phone to read other blogs, post comments and even respond to comments. I feel like I could do this better somehow.

[4] Do you use Blogger or Wordpress? Why? I've always used Blogger, but so many blogs that I read are on Wordpress. It makes me wonder if I'm missing out on something.

[5] What comment platforms do you use? What are the advantages to using something different than what Blogger or Wordpress offers? For example, Disqus.

[6] What is your preferred way for readers to follow you? Is it your favorite social media, email subscription, or some form of a reader?

[7] Speaking of email subscriptions. I currently just use the one that Google offers, Feedburner. What do you use? And if it's something different than what your platform offers, is it worth it?

[8] Do you belong to any blogging groups? I used to see a lot of blogs that advertised they were part of networks such as Blogher or SITS Girls or Top Mommy Blogs. I rarely see anything like that anymore. Did those collaborative groups disappear?

[9] What time of day do you post your content? Is there a time of day that seems to perform better than others? I schedule most of my posts for the crack of dawn, but will post at other times as inspiration hits.

[10] What are your blogging pet peeves? In other words, when you read or comment on other blogs what things instantly turn you off or drive you crazy? It makes me sad when comments on my posts are from noreply-comment@blogger.com. I like to be able to respond to comments via email - that way you know I've read your comment and want to reply back. I'm definitely guilty of commenting on others' blogs and not going back to see if the blog author responded. But I always check my email.

I seriously would love to hear your responses to these questions - teach me and teach others! Make the answers into your own post and link back if you like - THAT would be fun!

ICYMI, earlier in the week I had a confession download, shared my impromptu recipe for 4th of July cookies, and answered a list of twenty about me questions from the lovely ladies at The Blended Blog.

I am praying for a restful weekend. My oldest picked up the bug on Thursday morning and is still recuperating. I'm hoping the youngest and my farmer stay bug free.

I hope you've had a fantastic week and have an amazing weekend.

  3. I'm not a blogger (at least, not yet), but I LOVE Bloglovin. It's such an easy way to follow all the blogs I love.

  6. Glad you're on the mend, I was worried for you!

Long answer: I use Wordpress and love it but I've never used Blogger. I understand it as Blogger was the in thing and so more seasoned veterans used that, then something new and shiny came along and us newbies went there. I honestly don't think one is better than the other. The features seem to be really similar, but Blogger seems to suit blogs better and Wordpress suits websites better. As more bloggers branch out with their own products and collaborations I see them switch to Wordpress. Just my thoughts though ha nothing concrete there. Wordpress also has a reader built into the app, so I use that to follow blogs and no matter where a blog is hosted you can follow it on Wordpress too, similiar to Bloglovin.

I love instagram and insta stories. In fact I rarely read many "big" blogs now that they all do Insta stories.

I don't have pet peeves of my guests that come to my blog, myself yes a million though ha!

I use mail chimp for email and not unhappy with it, but I think I should be doing more. That's my own lack of productivity though. I've seen those groups too. With all my research prior to starting my blog, I read everywhere they're bad for your brand and make your blog appear "cheesy". I'm not sure if that's true, but that's the word out there so I assume people stay away.

    Hope this helps!

  9. I don't see blogging groups anymore either, but I love linkups as a way to network and share my blog. I like that you email your replies!
I have a Wordpress blog, which I moved from Blogger, and there are advantages to each. But I'm glad I'm on Wordpress now. This post is why I made that decision, and this post is how I did it. :) I have to say, though, the move was a big deal that took time.
Glad you shared this, and I hope your family feels better and stays free from the tummy bug all weekend! ❤

  10. Trista! Love this post!!! I want to answer every single question but I'll just do a few in the interest of space. I'm on Blogger and just yesterday my daughter started a blog (and surprised me) to chronicle her study/travel abroad in Italy this fall. She set hers up on WP and now I'm feeling like I should change. It looks so good. I chose Blogger bc it was FREE and I wasn't sure how I'd really do as a blogger. Hers is free to and for some reason I didn't think you could do WP free.

It's hard to keep up with a ton of blogs just because of time. I have one of my blogging friends that reads 150ish blogs a day. She's super woman. I don't know how she does it. I'm trying to be better at remembering to hit all my favs and some new ones.

I've been thinking about using Disqus. I think it automatically tells commenters when you respond (in form of an email.) I wish that blogger just did that. It would be so much easier.

I'm trying to be more active on IG and I started a FB page for my blog.

Ok, that's it...Have a great weekend. Hope you are feeling much better. I saw your IG post and said "OH NO" out loud. Stomach bugs are awful and especially on top of pregnancy. XO

  11. So I am sitting here and feeling so old school! I favorite all my daily reads (from the top bar) and then click on my bookmarks every day. Bloglovin would be so much easier. Hahahahaha! Why didn't I think of that any sooner????

  12. I wish Blogger was prettier- your site is, mine is bananas! I originally bought my domain to be used on Word Press and found it to be so not user-friendly like Blogger. I need to pay someone to redesign my site for sure. I agree with you about the no-reply. I didn't know what that was until spring break of this year, and Jenny helped me turn mine off. I know blogging can be time consuming, but I greatly dislike when bloggers don't respond to comments. If I'm consistently going to a blog and commenting and get nothing in return from the blogger, I become disengaged and usually stop reading. Hope you are well on your way to being 100% better- have a relaxing weekend!

  14. I love reading more about your blogging history and what works for you and what doesn't. Hope you are recovering well.

  15. I am so glad that you're doing alright. That was super scary. I haven't had time to comment on many posts lately, but I've been keeping up with you via IG. One of the reasons I love IG so much. And, I am all IG and Insta stories these days. Hope you continue to get better, and love learning a bit more about your blogging experiences.

  16. I'm so glad you're feeling better! I have been falling behind on my blog reading but trying my hardest to keep up with my favs. I also love Bloglovin for that and if someone's blog isn't on there it makes it 10 times harder for me to remember to check theirs. I love when people comment and read my content but I'm so much more active on IG and my insta stories that I hope to build more over there. Have a great weekend! Beautifully Candid

  17. I just recently launched my blog jenonajourney.com and this post was a great read! Thank you! I am using WP and working everyday to learn more. I have learned a lot, but have a long way to go. I am trying MailChimp, but haven't figured it out 100%. :) I'm going to checkout Feedburner. Have a restful weekend!

  18. Hi Trista! This post has answered so many questions I didn't even know how to ask! Thank you for doing this...I wish I knew my own answers to some of them lol. But I do love blogger & Instagram is my absolute fav. I am terrible with advertising for my own blog. I never really mention it b/c I'm embarrassed I suppose 🙈

  19. I've always used blogger too! Wordpress seems complicated to me! I'm just impressed that you even have content to schedule! I can never get that far ahead!

  20. Sorry to hear you were sick! I use blogger but I've considered switching a lot. I also use bloglovin to read posts. My blog has disqus for comments and I love that. I put up my posts in the morning unless there's something extra I need to post and then I'll add that one in the afternoon!

I heart comments!

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I enjoy reading each and every one!

I hope you have a fabulous day! And stay classy through the chaos!
