twenty questions

While reading the girl in the red shoes, I saw Julie's post where she answered twenty random questions about herself. Since you all are just getting to know me, I thought this would be a great way to share with you some of my likes, dislikes, and quirky tendencies - maybe we'll even discover that we have some chaos in common.

1. favorite food
My answer to this is complicated. For the past eleven weeks, I've been Weight Watching. I'm eating some of the things I love, but not in the quantities I'd prefer nor as often as I'd like, so my favorites list has grown exponentially. In general, however, I love pizza. I also have a weakness for chocolate and coke.

2. flip flops or high heels
Neither. I have grown to seriously appreciate flats. Heels are more flattering, but it makes carting two kids around dangerous and uncomfortable. As for flip flops, I only get to wear them on the weekends. I truly only have one pair and consider them play flip flops, not the dressy kind I could wear with something more than a t-shirt and shorts.

3. favorite places to shop for yourself
When pregnant with L, who is almost one, my friend introduced me to Gap Maternity clothing. From that point on, my wardrobe has slowly become primarily Gap. I love the style (it's so versatile), the prices on a good coupon day (cha-ching), and most of all the quality (retains its original shape and color even though I've worn and washed time after time).

4. standard coffee order
Nil. I truly despise the taste of coffee. Surprisingly, though, I do love the smell. I have tried to make friends with coffee a number of times because that would be so much easier than drinking caffeine sodas, but I just can't.

5. road trip must have snack
Junk food, junk food, junk food. All dieting gets put aside for a road trip! Bring on the Coke, M&Ms, Mini Sweet Tarts, Combos, and Chex Mix.

6. DIY or hire it out
Hire it out. I've learned to let someone else do the things that steal my joy and ultimately stress me out. I've little creativity and even less patience. Plus, I'm just selfish. In the "me-time" that I do have, I prefer relaxation.

7. top 5 tv shows
Mickey Mouse, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, The Virginian, Bonanza, and The Waltons. Oh wait, that's not my list... MY (I will not miss) favorites are NCIS and Scorpion.

8. favorite book
Reading has always been one of my favorite things. Books consume me, and it's impossible for me to identify only one as my favorite. I have read Pretense by Lori Wick at least a half a dozen times. I was late to the Twilight party, and thankfully so - I didn't have to wait on the next book to come out that way. Gone with the Wind. The Bronze Horseman. The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. And that's just a start.

9. favorite form of exercising
Running, if you can call it that. It's probably more like jogging/walking. I'm not flexible or rhythmically inclined enough to gracefully do Zumba or Yoga.

10. how tall are you
I am almost 5'5.

11. do you try something new at restaurants or stick to your favorites
I mostly stay close to my favorites. However, in my quest for healthier eating I am branching out some and trying a few of the lighter options when dining out.

12. one make up item you can't live without
Pur Minerals powder foundation. I'm not much of a make up girl. I'll wear mascara and lip gloss on special occasions, but my everyday is pretty basic.

13. what's on your nightstand
My Bible and the baby monitor.

14. what's one thing motherhood has taught you
That time is truly but a vapor. That patience is renewed daily. That sleep is a blessing. And that not everything must be finished and in its place all of the time. Oops, I couldn't do just one.

15. music that reminds you of high school
'N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Outkast, Garbage, Bush, The Wallflowers, CCR. That's quite the array of genres there, but covers basically all of the fads I went through.

16. if you could live anywhere in the world besides your current city where would you live
Colorado. I have never been, but someday will go. I reserve the right to change my mind about living there once I've visited, but everything I have read, seen, and heard makes me want to set up shop there.

17. tell us something about you we might not know
I'm particular about things being in their place, organized, and clean. For example, I do not like pages of books or notebooks to be crinkled or folded, pencils must be sharp, and papers on my desk need to be in neat stacks. I love trips to Office Max and Target to peruse their office supplies and stationary.

18. websites you read/browse (besides blogs)
Facebook. Pinterest. The Skimm. Local news. Yahoo Finance.

19. morning person or night owl
Growing up, I was always a morning person. Waking with the chickens and singing with the birds - drove my brother crazy. As I've gotten older and now have children, their post bedtime is when I have a chance to relax, decompress, and reboot. So, I would go with night owl for now even if sleeping in is a foreign concept to my brain.

20. favorite breakfast meal
I can eat breakfast any meal of the day. I love cereal, plain and sugary. I can stuff my face with biscuits and gravy, bacon, and eggs. And when the mood is right, I'll enjoy french toast and pancakes. Oops, again I could not only choose one.

I would love to hear your answers. Please share yours in the comments or link up your blog post!

Stay classy through the chaos.

  4. Ah your high school music brought back to many memories!! I might to go download a few of those artists/songs right now! And I am the same way about flip flops. I have one cheap pair that I wear to the pool, but I feel like if I'm going to spend $40 on something, it's going to be a real shoe, not flip flops!

  6. Confession: I love to listen to an old Garbage cd while drinking caffeinated sodas pretty much any time I'm in my car by myself.
